The Bayelsa state government has promised that the late former governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha would be given a solemn but heroic burial.
Funeral rites for the late Alamieyeseigha begins today.
Esueme Dan-Kikile, a former commissioner for information, who heads the publicity sub-committee of the burial committee said Governor Seriake Dickson had put in place all things within his powers to ensure Alamieyeseigha gets a state burial befitting of a hero of Ijaw nation, The Punch reports.
The former governor’s funeral rites begin on Thursday, April 7, Yenegoa, the capital of the state.
Dan-Kikile noted that the deceased would not be buried at the Ijaw Heroes Park like the late Gen. Owoeye Azazi and Isaac Adaka Boro.
He said: “It is not that government will not be happy to bury him there (Ijaw Heroes Park) but we are also taking into consideration the interest of the family and the community.

“We have been working and since November 2015, we are expecting a befitting burial, a wonderful crowd at all the venues that activities will take place.”
According to him, aside the burial, they would be having Prof. G.G Darah deliver a lecture on ‘Federalism and developments in Nigeria’.
There would also be a night of tributes where dignitaries from all over the country will come and pay their last respects to Alamieyeseigha in comments, speeches, songs, poems, poetry and many others.
Extolling the virtues of the deceased, Dan-Kikile said thought he had his failings as a human being, he was passionate about Bayelsa, the Ijaw nation and Nigeria and also
He said Alamieyeseigha meant so much to Bayelsans, noting that he was a leader of both the leaders and the commoners.
Dan-Kikile added that the burial was not for the Bayelsa government alone but for all Nigerians.
Alamieyeseigha was the first civilian governor of the state, who during his heyday, was described as the Governor-General of the Ijaw nation.
He died on October 10, 2015, at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital at the age of 62 after a sudden illness.
Many had speculated that he faked his death to avoid being extradited to the UK, but the traditional ruler of Amassoma kingdom, Major Graham Naingba (rtd), who is also the first cousin to the late former governor dismissed the report.
