Mia Matsumiya is a 4’9″ humble young-looking 35-year-old woman of Japanese origin based in LA. She is a professional violinist who is a real magnet for perverts.
Over the last decade she has been bombarded with perverted and offensive messages from people who, going by their rhetoric, appear to be paedophiles, racists, Asian fetishists and stalkers.
“It had gotten to the point where someone would send the most scathing, racist, violent thing to me – like rape or death threats – and I would barely have a reaction,” she says. Finally she has decided to highlight the violence, aggression and volume of inappropriate messages she has received, launching an Instagram account named Perv Magnet meant to document a decade of online abuse. “I’ve archived 1,000+ messages from creeps, weirdos & fetishists over the past 10 years. I’ve decided to post them all.”
