Nigerian politicians are one of kind. They are good at almost everything from drama to free for all fights and blaming themselves.
Some of them are good at making promises they never keep. They are commended for doing jobs they were voted in to do like road construction and water supply in communities.
These set of people do a lot of things that many Nigerians find funny or annoying or irritating.
They are very good at keeping Nigerians entertained with their public fights and show of shame.
Below are six times Nigerian lawmakers have shown us they know how exchange blows like the touts do every day.
1. Rivers state Assembly: An attempt to impeach the speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, Otelemaba Amachree in July 2013, resulted in an embarrassing free-for-all fight between lawmakers.
2. Nigerian House of Rep: In September 2013, the arrival of Abubakar Baraje, leader of the breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caused an uproar at the House of Representatives and the lawmakers decided to exchange blows.
3. Edo state Assembly: In June 2014, members of the Edo state House of Assembly engaged in physical combat at the entrance of the State Assembly complex.
4. Benue state Assembly: It was a free for all fight at the Benue state House of Assembly chambers between members of the All Progressives Congress and the PDP, in June 2015.
5. House of Reps: In June 2015, some members of the House of Reps engaged in a brawl when the speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara attempted to appoint principal officers.
6. Nasarawa Assembly: This is the latest show of lawlessness by Nigerian lawmakers. On Monday, April 4, members of the Nasarawa state House of Assembly threw caution to the wind and turned the chamber into a battle ground.
Should the lawlessness of our lawmakers go unpunished?
